Hi rainady!
I gues you address the creaking noise which sometimes comes up especially at low speeds. It results from dry shock absorber seals which normally doesn't affect it's function.
To prevent the annoying noise, special felt-washers which are saturated with a special lubricant are fixed on the shock absorber pole and keep the seals wet.
Installation of this washers is easy and doesn't require to remove tyres or parts of the suspension.
Hope that helps.
Hutsch

Hutsch,
Am I correct in thinking there was a recall notice or something I can quote to the dealer. I bought the car second hand and the warrenty isnt very good.
We had a very dry weekend and the sqeeking from the front suspension was a real pain in the butt. When I had a look under the wheel arch, I did notice that there was also a plastic strip that was attached to the bottom of the springs. On my car, these plastic strips seem to have moved and are only held in place on the first quauter turn of the spring. Should I be concerned about that? I am fairly knowledgable about cars but never came across these bits of plastic on springs before. I assume it isnt too much of a problem, but things are put there for a reason. I want as much ammunition as possible to tie down the dealer.
Thankis in advance.

Just checked with the local Rover dealer. He said the felt washers are only fitted to the rear shocks to get rid of the squeak. But my squeaking is comming from the front.
Any ideas guys ?????

Hi Andy,
there are two Technical Bulletins that deal with the squeking noise from the shock absobers. TB0004 deals with incorrectly assembled shock absorbers and TB0012 deals with the dry seals. Both problems could be the origin of the squeaking noise. All shock absorbers (front and rear) are affected (on the 75 up to VIN 181590). On the 25, only the rear shock absorbers are affected.
Maybe you should try another dealer.
