Has anyone had problems with tyres scrubbing off. My front tyres are scrubbing off both on the outside. The alignment and full tracking is 100% correct. My Rover dealer cannot help and is curious as to what the problem could be. |

Hi Rich and welcome to our community Site!
The problem you are describing is new to me and I can not remember reading anything similar before, but see what other members may say.
The only thing we are aware off is the same thing happening to the rear tyres, which is a defenite sign for loose screws holding the axle in position - something that should be checked more or less freequently.
This is what I am talking about:
Could it be something similar at the front fixings?!?

I had the same Problem with the rear summer tyres.
But I noticed it first time last week, when I wanted to change the tyres again. The winter tyres didn´t have this problem!
So I think that at the first service (25000Km) the dealer fixed something... He have changed the tyres for me in autumn.
The problem: He didn´t said anything about that to me and the dealer didn´t exist anymore...

Interesting - my first login for a number of months - and immediately I pop in to a very recent and familiar problem.
I changed to winter tyres (dim 195x65x15 with spikes since I live in Sweden) ) in November but never checked (which was very silly) the rear summer tyres (dim 205x65x15) when they came off. Checking them last week showed a difference in wear - ca 2 mm more on the outsides. I then checked the winter tyres - no difference in wear! Since there has been nothing done to the rear axle the only reasons I can think of (for no wear on winter tyres) are lower friction depending on snow and ice (and they also have 10 mm less width).
Thank you Prowag for the excellent illustration - I will check the rear axle bolts first thing tommorow. And of course I will give a report in due time if there is still any difference in wear (I bought new summer tyres yesterday).
And I assume I ought to check alignment and tracking too.

Hi from Portugal
I have a Rover 75 Station (Estate) Auto, Coinoiseur Plus version. Its about 15 months old. I have just had the rear tyres checked, and the insides are down to the metal, but the top and outside surfaces good for another 20,000 km at least. I am a jouranalist, and have complained to Rover, who say its not their fault. But the tyre dealers tell me that there is NO POSIBLE ADJUSTMENT for the camber. Its fixed at the factory. Has anyone else heard about this? |

Hi All,
With regards to the Rover tracking I have the same problem with the outer wearing out and pulling to the left. There is more info about this on another Rover 75 group.
I actually live in Longbridge, so I have a number of friends who work a MG Rover that will look into this and hopefully throw some light on what can be done.
I will post any findings.
Thanks
Neil |
