Hi guys
I own a 2000 Rover 75 with Hi-Line navigation using the VDO system. Unfortunately this is not working at the moment and after taking back to the local dealer they said it was faulty but did not know what was causing the problem. They then faxed off the information to Rover UK who in turn said that they did not know what it was either!! The car is over 3 years old and I am now stuck with a Sat Nav system that doesn't work - Does anybody here have any ideas? This is what is happening:
The screen does display the vehicle but in the wrong position & facing the wrong direction!! I have tried disconnecting the NAV unit and the battery to perform a 'cold' reset but the system is not updating the vehicle location although when I drive the car does show as moving - just in the wrong location!!
The garage did connect it to the TESTBOOK 4 system and it came back with no errors!!!
Please help!!
Thanks

Hi Steve
if it really shows the car moving towards the reverse direction I would say it is the latter of Matz75's list, the reverse gear signal. Looks like your nav computer is fed the false information of always backing up.
I am not an electronics engineer, but this seems to be the simplest explanation, just a short circuit in this switch giving a frequent signal of 'backing up' while in fact driving forward.
Does that make sense?
Regards

Thanks guys...
Should of been a bit more clear with this...
The car is not showing as reversing just pointing in the wrong direction e.g. if I set the vehicle position to 'crossing the junction' at the end of my road the car shows as if its pointing to the left coming towards my road not actually on it so the direction is out by 1/4 not reversed.
The other point I forgot to mention is the display. This used to show a 'world' and 'satellite' in the top right hand corner when the system was working. Now I have lost the 'satellite' and am onlt left with the 'world' showing? Does this mean anything????
As for the suggestion about the GPS antenna - I also thought it was this - Is there any way to test this item/unit????
Thanks again for any help recieved

Oh man,
this sounds strange to me. Seems to be something wrong with the compass. You should go and see kind of a navi expert shop.
The globe should be there in the upper right corner and it certainly does mean something if it is, unfortunately I have no further explanation for that.
Sorry.

Thanks anyway - I am going to have a look around at the weekend for someone who may be able to fix this problem.

Hi Steve,
I have various electrical diagrams for the sat nav system that you may find useful. Mail me if you would like copies.
From the sound of it the problem must lie in the GPS receive equipment, beware though the system does not always display a world sign even if it is working correctly. This is because it doesn't always see GPS sats.
Cheers,
Anton |

I hate to give you bad news but something similar happened to my system. The solution? Rover replaced the whole lot. |
