Hi All,

Does anyone know the MUTE wire on the back of the Symphony Radio or have a wiring diagram for this radio?

If not is there a way of testing for a MUTE wiring without blowing things up!

Any help appreciaited!

Neil

Uh, sorry for the late answer. Should look into this section more often.
The question you asked has been discussed about a year ago. In German of course

Here's the short translation of the original post:

The mute signal is connected to Pin 1 of the 8-pin, grey connector. Power and Ground are also connected via this socket. Ground (GND) is connected to Pin 8.

HTH - hope this helps,

Hutsch

Dear Hutsch

Just found the web site and found it very useful for both my German and car! This is a technical question (that's why I writing in English) which I'm sure you've been asked numerous times before so sorry!! I've got a R75 Con. diesel. I've bought a Symphony radio, however, my car has a BMW plug and the Symphony is ISO. My dealer cannot source the Rover adaptor, neither can Rover! I've bought an adaptor, but the steering wheel remote controls don't work. Dealer can't help, Rover can't (or wont) help, and I've noticed you seem to be a the guru when it comes to these things. Do you have a schematic/picture of which pin goes where so I can alter the cable I've bought to include all the pins? I would be most grateful if you can help. Thanks very much.

Scott

PS Is the Zeppelin museum worth a visit in Friedrichshafen?

Hi Scott!

Why isn't your Dealer able to source the matching Adaptor? Strange.
Of course the normal adaptors from BMW to ISO normally won't work
properly concerning specials like the remote switches on the steering wheel.

Another german user just had the same question and asked about how to
connect the steering wheel switches to the radio. I gave him the pinning on the ISO socket and the corresponding wire colour codes but somehow it didn't work. I think he got the wrong wires and therefore I think i will get under my car in order to make some pictures - but not today.

The remote switch unit on the steering wheel is connected to the rotary
coupler on the steering column. From there you have to find out two cables
blue/purpur and blue/orange. Follow the cables from there (use a multimeter to verify) to the head unit. Don't try to guess. There might be other cables with the same colour code around.

Connect the blue/purpur cable to C0098, Pin3 and
the blue/orange one to C0098, Pin2.
C0098 is the grey ISO plug which also contains the power/ignition and ground wires. Have a look at the picture above in this thread. It is the bottommost plug.

CAUTION: Have a look at the picture. the pin numbering (1-2-3-4...) on the connector is top-down and left to right. In other words: pin 2 is below pin 1, pin 3 is right to pin 1 and so forth.

Good Luck!

Hutsch

FYI - just for waking up your local dealer

In the german FAQ I posted the matching cable codes. Uh - I should translate it into english

Symphony w/o CD-Autochanger: "YEW 100573",
Symphony with CD-Autochanger: "VUL 100330", 61.74 EUR plus VAT

Sorry for the delay. Thanks very much for the help, it has worked a treat, absolutely no problems. The local Rover dealer is still thinking about it! I still had to make a couple of leads up as the the only adaptor I could source had three pins missing, but it worked out a lot cheaper (£12.00) than the Rover part (£35.00 + VAT)

Thanks again and I'll recommend your site.

PS you could have wrote in German, it would have given me some practice!

Hi,

More questions in English I?m afraid.

I have purchased one of the latest Rover radios (type CR-80) and want to swap it for the Kenwood unit in my ZT as the Kenwood looks so out of place. The power and speaker connectors are clearly the same and a quick try showed that every thing works OK. However the Kenwood uses an IR link for the remote steering wheel controls and I suspect the new unit needs a direct wired connection. Any ideas what to so? Pin 2 on the power plug is the telephone mute so it is different from your example above.

I asked my local Rover dealer and they were clueless!

Chris
