Tailgate cannot open

I´ve bougth a CDT tourer - drives and works generally okay. But: occanssionally can I not open the tailgate. Even if I try to open/close with remote control several times.
The other doors locks/unlocks perfect.

Any idea of what to do - it´s not nice to go on holiday and don´t be able to get the luggage out...

By the way, does anyone know if the springs can be uprated in the rear - the car looks like the springs are too short!

Hi axell,

my 75 Tourer has had this tailgate "problem", too. But it's not a problem, it's a security feature.

If the car is driving, you cannot open the tailgate. The function of opening is activated, as soon as the computer realizes that the car has come to a complete standstill.

So, if you shut down the engine while the car is still rolling (even slow), you cannot open the tailgate afterwards.

The first time it happened I was confused, but the second time I realized the link between this two incidents: in both cases the car rolled a few meters after stopping the engine.

Please try it, maybe it's the solution of your problem, too.

Hi Axel,

that's fine, so you will get your baggage anytime you want it (and not your car)...

Maybe your 75 is equipped with a sport suspension? Some after market models of springs seem to shorten after a few thousand kilometers.

If you have a dealer you can trust, ask him about the springs.

I have the same problem in my -02 Tourer but...
I have to start the engine and then stop it. after that I can open the trunk.

Hi Lasse,

that's correct. If you restart and stop the engine the computer recognizes that the car isn't moving. So you can open the tailgate.
