75 HEADLIGHTS

can anyone help,
the exterior bulb failure light has come on on the dash, i have looked all around the car and even got my young lad to press the brake pedal, all lights are working fine but the failure bulb refused to go out. so i thought i would check all the bulbs when it came to checking the dipped beam. the space is so small that i can't get my hand in to remove the bulb so my questions are
1. do the bulbs have to be changed by a dealer using a special tool
2. can the failure bulb be reset if all bulbs are ok

1. it's most likely one of your rear number plate bulbs as they are monitored by the warning system. It's a common fault this. Either one of the two bulbs has blown, or has come loose from its socket.

2. headlamp bulbs don't need to be replaced by a dealer and there is no special tool. But it is a very fiddly job. You need to open up the removable flap in the front of the front wheel arch liner (one on each side) and then find someone with a thin hand. Full instructions are in the car handbook or go to www.mg-rover.org and search the forums-you'll find full instructions on how to do the job!

3. the lamp warning bulb will go out as soon as you find the rogue bulb. If it could be reset then only a dealer could do it but it will reset itself as soon as you find the bulb.
