Thanks Mike - that makes it much clearer now.
As I said in my post, I will be making electronic switches to do this. This has the advantage that you cannot blow anything up in the ECM/PCM/MEMS (or whatever you guys call it)., as it will be done electronically rather than using a hard wire.
As soon as I can source some connectors (probably through my work), I will be selling these boxes for a lot less than the commercial units (you wouldn't believe how easy these things are to make!).
Thanks again |

OK, so I have made up a lead with the diagnostic connector on, and shorted pins 8 and 4 for 10 seconds, to clear the Inspection Service. I tried this various ways (ignition on first then short, ignition off, short then ignition on etc) but the countdown mileage would not reset.
Looking at the Rover technical CD, there is something about resetting to 1000 miles (the wording is a little strange!). The countdpwn mileage is at 5800 miles (I serviced after 12 months) - is this why the service light will not reset? If so, it looks like I may have to connect a laptop or T4 to the DS-2 diagnostics to clear it.
Anyone any ideas? |

There is a hand held service interval resetting tool available to buy here in England for dealers who do not have the T4 diagnostic computer.
You connect it directly to the diagnostic socket locateded in the driver's footwell, and it is powered from the vehicles system, requiring no external mains or battery power supply.
It comes with complete instructions, but essentially it has two buttons on it, one for the oil service and the other for the inspection, as well as three LEDs. You just keep the appropriate button pressed until the LED light sequence is complete.
I do not have one of these devices myself, but a good friend and fellow 75 owner does. He was uneasy about shorting out the wrong pins using the method already discussed in this thread, so has invested in one and I thought I'd share the info here.
It costs £116.44 including VAT & 1st class postage to any UK address.
As I am a little unsure of this forum's policy on advertising or promoting of a particular company, I will not show their name or telephone number here, however if you send me a private message I'd be happy to supply the info. (If that's o.k. with the moderators).
