reset service reminder

When I bought my new 75, I thought of fitting door paint protectors under the handles, but when the dealer quoted $92 (about 35 pounds or 60 euros, I think) for fitting them (he said the handles had to be removed), I said "No thank you". Later at a visit to the dealer I asked to look at them and found that they attached with double-sided tape without needing to remove anything. I bought them and fitted them in 10 minutes. Result - Zero trust in the dealer to service my car. I will give it to the mechanic who has looked after my cars for years. Question - How does he reset the reminder of distance to next service?

as far as i am aware you can only reset the service reminder using the t4 test book,in other words a computer plugged into your car.

Try looking at this thread.
There ist a possibility to reset the service reminder by short-circuiting the test connector for a specific period.

Looked at above thread,and it works great,my service interval now reads 15,000mls,but dont short pin to earth instead use a piece of wire going thru a bulb to earth

look under lighting switch there you will find diagnostic socket,
the left hand pin as you are looking at it needs to be shorted to earth,but use a piece of wire with a 12v bulb in the circuit otherwise you could blow a fuse have ignition on and count between 8-25 seconds while shorting to earth then turn off ignition turn on again and you should be reset ..good luck let us know how you get on

Hi.

I need to reset the Inspection service light also. I have read that I need to short a pin on the diagnostic connector to ground for between 8 and 25 seconds (via a load of course). what's confusing me is which pin. You mention short the pin on the left hand side - well, there are two rows of pins. Presumeably you mean either pin 8 or pin 16? Can you please confirm whether it is the pin on the left, bottom row or top row.

My intention (as well as resetting the service light) is to build a circuit that will do all of this for you. I have found that they cost around £90, but I can make these for about £15 or less (depending on the connector cost).

If someone can help me on this I would be very grateful.
